5 Ways to Make Sure Your Gluten Free Sushi is Really Gluten Free

At the end of a long week, one of my favorite weekend fun activities involves a glass of chilled white wine and sushi from one my favorite sushi bars. You might be thinking what I’ve always thought, “Raw fish, rice and seaweed…its so very simple and delicious, what could possibly go wrong?!” Isn’t the how most gluten horror stories start out?  The bastardized American version of sushi with it’s fancy sauces and deep fried wonder creates a ton of hiding places for gluten. That’s right my friends, gluten has found a way to ruin yet another good thing for us glutards, that is if you don’t know what to avoid. But you can all consider yourselves saved, my gluten free sushi lovers, because I’ve put together a quick list of 5 major gluten containing sushi accoutrements to avoid on your next sushi date! Tempura. Fancy word for battered and deep fried.…

Product Review: The Primal Pantry’s Raw Gluten Free Paleo Bars

The Primal Pantry is a popular paleo snack brand in the UK that specializes in healthy on-the-go paleo snacks made with real non-gmo ingredients. It wasn’t until recently that Primal Pantry became accessible in the United States, so obviously, we had to try them as soon as we could get our hands on them.  Here’s what happened! Snack bars of the paleo variety are more of an acquired taste. Generally speaking they tend to be a bit dry, hard and difficult to chew. Some people enjoy that “hardy” texture. It can be easy to by-pass the grittiness if the flavor is on point.  These raw paleo bars are surprisingly moist (for a protein bar) and the flavors were decent although a little acidic. Overall there is a lot to like about Primal Pantry’s paleo products. Their raw bars are free of gluten, grains, refined sugar, dairy and vegetable oil and do…

6 Gluten Free Apple Recipes To Try This Fall

The official start of Fall is around the corner people! You know that that means….APPLE PICKING SEASON!!! Swoon…. Don’t get us wrong, we are sad to see summer go, but Fall is just the best.  The colors, the crisp air, the cute clothes and of course the APPLES. Every year my husband and I go apple picking with our family at Och’s Farm in Warwick, NY. We usually tailgate right outside of the apple orchard. Everyone packs snacks and lunches to share. Technically tailgating is not allowed but that will be our little secret. By the end of the day, I’ve usually eaten my weight in fresh delicious apples-picked right off the tree. We also drive home with about 15 pounds of apples in our trunk. On the drive home it always hits me…Oh Crap…what are we going to do with all these apples?! Then I usually spend the whole…

Beautiful Carb-Free Gluten Free Mediterranean Pasta

My obsession with all the little details can get really annoying (just ask my husband). It’s also just plain exhausting. When my best friend had her baby shower, I killed myself finding the perfect party theme….”born to be wild” with jungle accents if you were wondering. I painstakingly made every decoration by hand and I spent way too much time making deliciously adorable gluten free monkey faced cupcakes that nobody really ate…wahhhh! (maybe that “fun” project will find its way onto TDK) When my son turned one, I HAD to throw a huge lake themed party complete with an invitation full of fish puns. Again I poured my time into preparing dinner for 50 people and making some really cute birthday banners and a sign that read “the BIG one! Yes, I am aware of how annoying this blog makes me sound but there is reason I bring all this…
